Record number of new coronavirus cases confirmed in Leicester today


Leicester has had the newest coronavirus confirmed in a single day since the start of the pandemic.There have been 666 new confirmed cases in city council and county areas in the past 24 hours, with 335 in Leicester alone.

The highest daily total was 311 cases, confirmed just over a week ago.

Disaggregated at district and district level, Charwnood added 151 new infections, while 73 people Blaby received positive test results.

North West Leicestershire’s the overall total increased by 69, with 56 new cases confirmed in Hinckley et Bosworth.

There were 42 cases detected in Oadby et Wigston and 41 in Melton. Harborough confirmed 35 cases.

The numbers will need to drop significantly if the city and county’s targets of being placed at Level 1 when the national lockdowns expire on December 2 are to be met.

  • Leicester: 407.1 cases per 100,000

  • Blaby: 317.2 cases per 100,000

  • Charnwood: 360 cases for 100,000

  • Harborough: 205.7 cases per 100,000

  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 248.4 cases per 100,000

  • Melton: 279.2 cases per 100,000

  • North West Leicestershire: 264.5 cases per 100,000

  • Oadby and Wigston: 324.5 cases per 100,000
