Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have made headlines in recent years. The adorable couple have captured hearts around the world with their romantic fairy tale.
It hasn’t been easy for the couple, however, as they’ve been subjected to numerous media reviews and tabloid gossip. Sources say their relationship within the royal family has also been tumultuous. In fact, Prince Harry’s own brother was afraid rushing with Meghan would have negative consequences.
Meghan and Prince Harry’s whirlwind romance
Meghan and Prince Harry’s fairytale romance began with a blind date in July 2016. The two were put together by a mutual friend – it remains to be debated whether that friend was the director of PR from Ralph Lauren Violet von Westenholz or designer Misha Nonoo. One thing’s for sure, though: whoever came up with the idea to put them together was absolutely brilliant.
The date was a hit, as they hit it off, and Prince Harry fell in love with her instantly. They agreed to meet again the next day and the relationship quickly developed from there. After just a few weeks, the couple flew to Botswana, where they spent their time camping under the stars.
After a few months of intimacy, their news was released to the media. They quickly became the hottest topic in entertainment news, and Meghan faced abuse and harassment from numerous media outlets.
The actress was not used to being in the spotlight at this point and Prince Harry quickly came to her defense. Kensington Palace issued the following statement in November 2016: “Last week a line was crossed… Prince Harry is concerned for Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he was unable to protect her…. It’s not a game, it’s his life and hers. ”
Despite the negative media coverage, the couple continued to grow closer. In December 2016, they were seen picking a Christmas tree and strolling through Piccadilly Circus admiring the Christmas lights.
That year, they spent Christmas with their families but shared the New Year’s holidays in London. After the holidays, they took a romantic vacation in Norway.
The two continued their relationship at a distance while Meghan was in Toronto, filming for the series Costume. In March 2017, they traveled to Jamaica together and Harry spent Easter in Toronto.
Prince Harry and Meghan made their first public appearance at the Audi Polo Challenge. Meghan then returned to London for Pippa Middleton’s wedding. In November 2017, they announced their engagement and got married on May 19, 2018.
Prince William was not too happy with their quick engagement
Apparently, Prince Harry’s brother wasn’t too excited about the couple’s whirlwind romance. Prince Harry was instantly smitten with Meghan, and when he shared his feelings with his brother, Prince William, he didn’t get the reaction he was hoping for. Sources say Prince William feared his brother would take things too quickly.
An excerpt from the book by historian Robert Lacey, Battle of the Brothers, reveals William’s reaction to the news of his brother. “For William, this was the future state of his monarchy – his sacred trust; while for Harry, it was the intricate and captivating woman’s love that had finally given meaning to his life, ”Lacey wrote. “William was worried that his brother would act too quickly in his dating – and he didn’t hesitate to say the same when Harry started talking about getting tied up with Meghan very soon.
Perhaps Prince William was hoping Prince Harry would take his time with his new relationship, just like Prince William had done with Kate. The couple dated for many years before getting married, and around this time Kate learned a lot about the monarchy and its role.
Lacey also said Prince William asked his uncle Earl Spencer to help stop Prince Harry from proposing too soon.

While it may appear that Prince William’s fears of bringing a foreigner into the monarchy too quickly were unfounded, his concerns were not entirely wrong. There have been quite a few changes in the Royal Family as a result of Prince Harry bringing Meghan into his life.
In January, the couple announced they would be parting ways with their senior roles in the royal family. The announcement shocked many, but there were several signs that they were not in love with royal life.
Even before meeting Meghan, Prince Harry was apparently not a fan of his royal duties. When the couple’s son Archie was born in 2019, they didn’t give him a royal title. In fact, Prince Harry mentioned in a conversation with Jane Goodall that his son “wouldn’t grow up like this”.
The couple officially resigned from the royal family on April 1. They moved to the United States and now live in Santa Barbara with their son.
