United States President Donald Trump has approved his successor’s access to the country’s most secure secrets, news services reported. The move means President-elect Joe Biden will have access to the latest information on major national security threats around the world.

An administration official said Tuesday that Trump had authorized Biden to receive the President’s Daily Brief (PDB), the highly confidential briefing prepared by the country’s intelligence community for top government officials.

The official said the logistics of when and where Biden would first receive the briefing were still being worked out, the Associated Press reported.

Biden works from his home in Wilmington, Delaware and from a temporary space at a local theater.

An official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) told the Reuters news service that, “in accordance with the statutory directive of the Presidential Transition Law, the ODNI will provide the requested support to the transition team.”

“This afternoon, the White House approved ODNI to move forward providing PDB as part of transition support,” the unnamed official said.

The move comes a day after the General Service Administration (GSA) paved the way to begin formal planning for the transition to Biden’s administration ahead of his Jan. 20 inauguration as the 46th President of the United States. .

Trump continues to cast doubt on the outcome of the Nov. 3 election and has not officially conceded, but increasingly his administration is preparing for the transfer.

Biden said the power transition has “already started” and that he believes his team “won’t be as far behind the curve as we thought we might be in the past. ”

“There is a lot of immediate discussion and I have to say the awareness has been genuine. There has been no reluctance so far. And I don’t expect that to be the case. So yeah, it’s already started, ”Biden said in an interview that airs Tuesday night on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.

Trump has always refused to concede and has vowed to continue fighting in court even after giving GSA administrator Emily Murphy the go-ahead to coordinate with Biden’s transition team.

Murphy was under increasing pressure from members of Congress to declare Biden the apparent winner and begin the formal transition process.

“Our democracy and the orderly transition of power from one president to another must not be undermined by a candidate’s inexplicable reluctance to accept clear election results, or by the inaction of government officials like you. Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said in a November 23 letter to Murphy.

Biden introduced his national security team earlier today, his first substantive signal on how he will move away from Trump’s international policies.

Antony Blinken, a long-time prominent foreign policy aide to Biden, will serve as secretary of the US State Department.

Alejandro Mayorkas, a Cuban-American lawyer and former director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, will be the secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

Diplomat Linda Thomas-Greenfield will be appointed Ambassador to the United Nations. Jake Sullivan, national security adviser under Biden when he was vice president, will be the White House’s national security adviser.

Avril Haines, former deputy director of the CIA, was chosen to take on the post of director of national intelligence, the most important spy post in the United States. She would be the first woman to hold this position.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry will be a special envoy on climate change.
