Power restored to 60,000 customers in Vancouver, says BC Hydro

Power has been restored to the 60,000 Vancouver customers who were left in the dark Wednesday morning, according to BC Hydro. The outage occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. PT and lasted over an hour.

A notice on the BC Hydro website attributed the problem to a failure in the transmission circuit.

It affected an area roughly between Kitsilano in the north and 41st Avenue in the south, and Cambie Street in the east to Dunbar Street in the west.

Small areas of Surrey, Richmond and Burnaby also lost power on Wednesday morning.

The outages came as heavy rains began to ease in metro Vancouver, turning to showers through Wednesday.

Temperatures remain warm with a high of 14 C during the day, dropping to 10 C at night, thanks to an airflow from the southwest. Strong winds could continue until Wednesday evening.

CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe said the current storm system would flow south on Thursday, leaving behind a mixture of sun, cloud and a few showers.

The skies are expected to clear around Friday and at the weekend, with nighttime temperatures dropping to around zero on Saturday night.
