New photos from a birthday party attended by California Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife at an upscale restaurant in wine country earlier this month appeared to show an unmasked group eating side-by-side, according to a report. inside.

The photos, obtained by FOX 11 in Los Angeles, were taken by a witness who told reporter Bill Melugin that the governor’s group was so loud that the sliding glass doors open near where they were sitting must have been closed.

A spokesperson for Kinney told FOX 11 that the seats are considered outside.

“The guests and the restaurant followed all applicable state and county public health guidelines,” the spokesperson said. “The guests specifically needed to sit outside. And these are outdoor seating, as confirmed and provided by the restaurant.

The controversy comes as Newsom this week announced new restrictions on coronaviruses, including closing indoor dining in the majority of counties in the state as cases rise in California and across the country.

State officials have urged residents to avoid large Thanksgiving gatherings next week to prevent the virus from spreading.

Newsom’s office highlighted FOX 11 to the governor’s apology when asked to comment on the photos.
