PARIS (AP) – Flyback Romain Ntamack has been ruled out of France’s upcoming Fall Nations Cup match against Scotland due to an unspecified injury.
The French rugby federation announced Monday that Ntamack will be replaced by uncapped Toulon player Louis Carbonel ahead of Sunday’s game at Murrayfield.
France did not say how long Ntamack will be sidelined but his withdrawal is a blow to the team. Ntamack, who has formed a promising pair with Antoine Dupont, was impressive in the Six Nations tournament, finishing as the top scorer with 57 points while running in three tries.
France were scheduled to start the newly created tournament last weekend against Fiji, but the match was called off following a COVID-19 outbreak within the South Pacific squad. Scotland beat Italy 28-17 in their opener.
The first fall Nations Cup was launched after the coronavirus pandemic prevented major teams in the southern hemisphere from playing traditional fall tests. The event involves teams from the Six Nations tournament as well as Fiji and Georgia.
