Nicola Sturgeon Coronavirus Update LIVE as Level 4 Lockdown Decision Due Today

Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon is set to announce the latest lockdown level review today – with millions likely to be on the tightest restrictions. Officials were checking the latest infection figures this morning in the Glasgow and Grand Clyde area councils, Lanarkshire and potentially West Lothian.

The Glasgow council area, the three councils of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, West and East Dunbartonshire, North and South Lanarkshire, Stirling and possibly Inverclyde are all under consideration for level 4, according to leaked documents .

If confirmed as planned, the Level 4 decision will result in new travel restrictions, the closure of non-essential stores, hairdressers, pubs and gyms from Friday.

Schools are expected to remain open, but teachers’ union EIS is threatening industrial action and demanding a shift to distance learning in covid hotspots.

On Monday, another 717 people across Scotland tested positive for covid 19 with 1,227 people in hospital, 98 in intensive care and six more deaths.

The Prime Minister is due to update Parliament at 2:20 p.m. this afternoon.
