New Covid-19 cases in France surpass 52,000 in latest 24-hour record

                Les autorités sanitaires françaises ont signalé lundi 52 518 nouvelles infections à Covid-19 au cours des dernières 24 heures, établissant un nouveau record quotidien depuis l'épidémie de la maladie, contre 46 290 dimanche.

                                    <p>Ce décompte suggère que le nouveau verrouillage du pays n'a pas encore produit ses premiers effets, car les hospitalisations pour la maladie ont encore augmenté de plus de 1000, atteignant un sommet de quatre mois de 25.143.

The number of people who died in France from Covid-19 infections rose to 416, from 231 on Sunday and a seven-day moving average of 345.

The cumulative number of cases now stands at 1,466,433.

The 65 million people in France have been largely confined to their homes since Friday amid an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases that has threatened to overwhelm French hospitals.

The nationwide lockdown will initially be enforced until December 1, although health experts have warned that a longer crackdown may be needed.
