The National Basketball Players Association plans to hold a vote Thursday night or Friday morning regarding the Dec. 22 starting format for the 2020-21 season amid the coronavirus pandemic, sources told The Athletic. The NBPA, led by Executive Director Michele Roberts this week launched official conference calls with players from all 30 teams. The players had calls with the NBPA starting Monday and will drop by Thursday morning. Players coming out of multiple meetings believe a December 22 start is inevitable, sources said.

For the NBA and the players’ union, the two main issues in discussions so far have revolved around the start date – December 22 or around Martin Luther King Day, January 18 – and the amount of the holdback. / escrow of player payments.
