It looks like Michael Chandler won’t step in on short notice to face former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos this weekend.
After Islam Makhachev’s scratch at the main event of UFC Vegas 13, dos Anjos called on Chandler to replace him on Sunday night. The recent UFC free agency signer and former Bellator champion responded to fan requests on his Instagram page on Monday morning and essentially dismissed the possibility, stating that “we have other plans.”
Dos Anjos also took to social media on Monday to apparently respond to Chandler’s journey to his much-anticipated promotional debut.
If you don’t fight because you don’t have enough time to lose weight, I get it, but don’t tell me you have other plans.
I became the champion of the BIGGEST organization by fighting everyone they put in front of me. Shame on you.

At the moment, a replacement has yet to be named for dos Anjos, who was due to return to lightweight for the first time since a unanimous decision loss to Tony Ferguson in November 2016. “RDA” won their first three fights at 170- pounds – including wins over Neil Magny and Robbie Lawler – before losing four of his next five, which includes a loss to Colby Covington at UFC 225 for the interim welterweight title.
The Kings MMA fighter’s last victory came in May 2019 when he featured Kevin Lee in the UFC Rochester main event.
