“Films with sexual content have been made which damage the image of the icon representing the pride of Chiapas and go beyond the limits of morals and good customs,” the agency said in a statement obtained by the Daily Mail .
“These images damage the link that Chiapas has with our emblem, social and cultural since the imposing Canyon is located in the heart of Chiapas as the symbol of our battles and the roots of our peoples.”
Sumidero Canyon is home to endangered species like river crocodiles, spider monkeys, and ocelots.
In a now deleted tweet, Marín bragged about the group’s trip, saying, “What’s up, here we are; We are going to go to the Canyon to take some super hot pictures, which no one has ever taken, this is the first time models and actresses have taken pictures in the Grand Canyon of Sumidero.
But not everyone was against the group. Manuel Niño Gutiérrez, president of the Association of Central Chiapas Hotels and Motels, told Diario Cambio that he hopes the video will help boost the region’s tourism industry.
“In a way, I see it as a promotion towards the destination,” said Gutiérrez. “They (the actors) come because it’s a safe place and they chose this place because of its nature.”
