Police said there was no threat to Ms Trump or other members of the motorcade, while the unidentified officer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“I spoke with the injured @HPDNC officer tonight and was happy to hear that he was doing well,” Ms. Trump said in a tweet following her campaign event.
“Thank you, as always, to all the law enforcement officials who work to protect us every day!”
The incident reportedly occurred around 3:25 p.m. EST on Woodlawn Avenue near South Tryon Street. Police are investigating but have not shared further details.
Ms Trump appeared at the campaign event in Huntersville shortly after, addressing a crowd of around 300 at the Magnolia Woods event center around 4 p.m.
“Instead of working with our administration to unify and protect our nation, they only sought to attack us,” she said at the event, according to Wsoc. “At first they attacked my husband because he was too aggressive – and now they say he didn’t do enough.
