Liquor delivery company sales soar during election

Alcohol sales for delivery company Drizly soared on Tuesday as many Americans anticipated the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, NPR reported.According to NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO.

Sales in states traditionally favoring Republican candidates, including Wyoming, Idaho, Louisiana, Tennessee, Missouri, and Oklahoma, increased 33%, while sales in swing states increased by nearly by 55%, NPR reported.

Larger sales spikes were seen in major cities across the United States, including Washington, DC and New York, NPR reported.

The largest percentage of Drizly’s sales increase was in wine deliveries, which totaled around 42%, while alcohol followed at 41% and beer at 15%, NPR reported.

The company’s sales were up around 68% overall on election day, topping sales on the past four Tuesdays. Drizly experienced a similar surge four years ago in the 2016 presidential election, according to NPR.

The 2020 presidential election results are still pending as the ballots continue to be counted in Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Arizona.
