Legit or hacked? Questions raised as Conor McGregor usurps Khabib Nurmagomedov in official UFC pound-for-pound rankings – rt sport news

Immediately afterwards, a tearful Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport – but not before asking the UFC to consolidate his place at the top of the promotion’s open weight table.

« It was my last fight here. I only know one thing I want from UFC“Khabib told UFC commentator Jon Anik in the cage. “Guys gotta put me at the top of the pound for pound fighters in the world because I deserve it. »

The UFC duly obliged, elevating Khabib above Jon Jones to the number one spot where it was presumed he would stay for a while.

However, on Saturday there had been a change. As pointed out on Twitter by a range of fight fans, Khabib had lost his first place – and was replaced by his big rival Conor McGregor, the Irishman he defeated in Las Vegas in 2018.

And yes, the same list of McGregor as number one appeared on the Russian version of the UFC homepage. Khabib, meanwhile, fell to third position.

Questions will now be asked to find out exactly how or why the change was made. McGregor has only competed once since his loss to Khabib at UFC 229, beating Donald Cerrone in a 40-second bombing in January – but even the Dubliner’s most ardent supporters would find it difficult to argue that McGregor’s recent work is enough to put him in the top spot.

Alors si ce n'est pas une erreur administrative, quoi d'autre? L'un des partisans de McGregor aurait-il pu
hack ”the UFC website to change his hero’s ranking – or demote Khabib in his official rankings after he retires and close the gap with his most passionate rival?

Time will tell, but at the time of writing, at least on computer screens, McGregor can claim to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. Internet says so.
