‘Kim’s Convenience’ Star Paul Sun-Hyung Lee Landed ‘Dream’ Role in ‘The Mandalorian’

TORONTO – Disney has recruited another star from the Canadian comedy series “Kim’s Convenience” – this time Paul Sun-Hyung Lee.

The Calgary-raised actor surprised fans with an appearance in a new episode of the Western Space Disney Plus series “The Mandalorian” this week.

He plays a rebel pilot in Chapter 10 of the show’s recently launched Season 2, which is an expansion of the “Star Wars” universe.

Last year, Disney’s Marvel Studios chose “Kim’s Convenience” star Simu Liu to lead the upcoming “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” superhero film.

Lee plays Patriarch Appa on CBC’s “Kim’s Convenience” and follows members of a Korean-Canadian family who run a convenience store in Toronto.

The huge self-proclaimed “Star Wars” fan wrote on Twitter that he kept his “dream” role in “The Mandalorian” a secret until its launch.

” The dream becomes reality! Lee tweeted on Friday, the day the episode launched.

“I cried while the costume was being put on. For real, ”he wrote in another tweet, responding to one of the many fans who flooded his timeline with congratulations for the role.
