Kyle Rittenhouse is accused of shooting Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and injuring Gaige Grosskreutz during a demonstration on August 25 following the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha. He posted a bond through his lawyer around 2 p.m. Friday.
Hours after his release, L. Lin Wood of Atlanta, who is a member of the Rittenhouse Defense Team, tweeted a photo of Rittenhouse, Ricky Schroder and attorney John Pierce, under the headline “FREE AT LAST !!! ” Lin tweeted earlier that a donation from Schroder helped put Rittenhouse’s bond fundraising effort “on top.”
Rittenhouse, of Antioch, Ill., Told police he was attacked while guarding a business and shot in self-defense.
He faces multiple charges including intentional homicide, reckless endangerment and minor in possession of a firearm. Wisconsin law does not allow minors to carry or own a firearm unless they are hunting. He is due to return to court on December 3 for a preliminary hearing.
His case took on political connotations. Proponents of the Black Lives Matter movement have portrayed Rittenhouse as a trigger happy white supremacist. Conservatives upset by the destruction of property in recent protests have portrayed him as a patriot who exercised his right to bear arms during the unrest. A legal defense fund for Rittenhouse has raised millions of dollars in donations, and her mother received a standing ovation from women at a Waukesha County GOP ceremony in September.
