Law enforcement in Huntington Beach, Calif., Said they were preparing for an expected protest against the state’s coronavirus-related curfew on Saturday night.

The protest was scheduled to begin at 10:01 p.m. PT (1:01 a.m. ET), with an additional protest scheduled in San Clemente, according to Los Angeles’ FOX 11’s Bill Melugin.

Huntington Beach and San Clemente are in Orange County.

An announcement regarding the planned protest appeared on social media this week, but it is not known who posted it.

“The Huntington Beach Curfew Breakers!” the leaflet read. “If you are a free American and more than nonessential, join us in a clear act of defiance against Newsom’s stay-at-home order. Come to Huntington Beach Pier, 10:01 PM on Saturday, November 21. ”

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced a new nighttime curfew for the state that was scheduled to begin on Saturday night. The Democrat has called for a halt to all “non-essential works, movements and gatherings” in the state’s “purple-level” coronavirus communities between 10 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Purple-level communities are the areas with the most severe coronavirus outbreak, with more than seven cases per 100,000 people.

After Newsom issued his order, several California sheriffs said they had no plans to enforce the curfew.

“We have a lot of things to do, including removing guns from gang members, stopping drug trafficking and saving children from internet predators,” Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said in a statement. video session Thursday afternoon, according to FOX 26 from Fresno. .

On May 9, for example, local police said a crowd of around 1,500 gathered to challenge a stay-at-home order in effect at the time.

Many of the attendees were with a group called Fully Reopen CA Now, according to FOX 11 from Los Angeles.

Newsom, 53, a former supervisor and mayor of San Francisco who has been governor of California since January 2019 after serving as lieutenant governor for two terms under former governor Jerry Brown, has been among the most aggressive governors in the country to take decisions measures against the coronavirus.
