Helicopters seen flying in formation over North Staffordshire ‘on their way to film I’m a celebrity’ – this is the moment they were filmed

Six helicopters seen flying in formation over North Staffordshire and South Cheshire are believed to be on their way to film I’m A Celebrity…. Get me out of here! Dozens of people have taken to social media after spotting the helicopters sailing in an impressive single line over Kidsgrove, Talke, Alsager, Church Lawton, Crewe, Congleton and Sandbach yesterday afternoon.

There was a lot of speculation, some suggesting it was MoD helicopters on a training flight and others joking that Boris Johnson was on his way to get his hair cut.

However, the most likely theory seems to be the I’m A Celeb, as the same helicopters have been seen flying in North Wales, where filming is set to begin at Gwrych Castle.

StokeonTrentLive is awaiting official confirmation.

It comes just eight days before the 20th series of the show hosted by Ant and Dec, which has of course been relocated from Australia due to Covid-19 and begins on Sunday, November 15.

Former Sentinel photographer Malcolm Hart was among those who filmed a short clip of the plane near his home in Alsager.

One woman said: “Looks like the helicopters were flying towards Wales Castle where they’re filming I’m A Celeb this year. They may have been carrying celebrities.

“I don’t know for sure, but the front helicopter was equipped with cameras.

“One broke up while they were recovering from Talke. It looked like it was filming the other five. ”

Another added: “There was one flying separately from them a short distance away as if he was watching or filming them.

“There were six at one point before one took another direction. ”

A third said: “These were private, non-military helicopters. I followed them and they turned around and went to Congleton and then to Leek. “

And a fourth added: “These were private helicopters from Knutsford. There are rumors that it’s for I’m A Celeb but not confirmed but certainly not military. I had them on a flight tracker and they headed for Leek and then disappeared. ”

The people of Abergele, Neil and Debbie Roberts, had heard the hum of the engines and quickly filmed the squadron of aircraft from an open window.

Neil said: “We heard them coming and the best vantage point to see them was from the back room.

“So we took him upstairs. My wife was faster than me to get her cell phone out. ”

Neil, 64, speaker, added: “They came from Rhyl’s direction, flew over Gwrych Castle, and then they bowed and went out to sea.

“Then they bowed again and came south of the castle and flew west, behind the castle.

The Roberts aren’t quite sure what the plane was doing, but believe it was part of the popular TV show.

“It’s hard to say. They were so slow on the castle. We thought they might land but they held their height and went west.

Keen I’m A Celeb fans Neil and Debbie, who is retired, have been watching the activity over the past week and the TV production teams have set up its base near their home.

“It’s like a mini-city,” said Neil. “We were stunned when Gwrych Castle was chosen for the show. There is a real buzz in the city.

“Everyone is excited. It lightened the mood (during coronavirus lockdown restrictions). “
