Fraser Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Newton Elementary School in Surrey.Surrey School Superintendent Jordan Tinney sent a letter to students and staff on Friday evening saying the school would be closed until December 14.

Fraser Health said 16 positive cases were identified at the school.

As a precaution, the health authority said closing the school for two weeks could break the chains of COVID-19 transmission present at the school.

Tinney said in her letter to parents that “the school will continue to work with our students to provide support for learning while they are at home.”
