France’s biggest beauty secret makes a splash in the United States

Ask anyone whose aging is getting older, and they’ll probably tell you that one of the things they want the most is to at least look younger. Being told that you look decades younger than you actually are is one of the biggest compliments an adult (especially a woman) can receive, and being at this exclusive club of people who have drunk from the proverbial fountain of youth likes to be. For millennia people all over the world have gone to extremes to achieve this, from eating leeches to taking crocodile mud baths.

However, a mother-daughter from Queens has rediscovered an age-old way of pursuing the anti-aging dream, and it comes from France.

Enter Stacey and Kelsey Bent, mother and daughter respectively who have moved frequently between Queens, New York and Paris for most of their lives. While chatting with a neighbor from Paris a few years ago, they learned something about her that changed the course of their lives.

“At one point in our conversation, she mentioned that her husband was 92 and played tennis every day, at which point Kelsey and I almost fell off our chairs,” Stacey explained. “We asked her how old she was, and it turned out she was around 70, but we always assumed she was in her 50s. We thought there was no way her skin was amazing!

The most logical follow-up question for these two was “What’s your secret !? »At which their neighbor smiled and explained that there was only one thing she had ever used for her skin…

Once something more appreciated by the wealthy and connoisseur, royal jelly does not get its name from the fact that it is used by the nobility. In fact, it is used by bees, especially queens. The other bees in the hive create this jelly which should only be used by her, allowing the queen to live up to 70 times longer than any of the other bees in the hive. While worker bees live for weeks, the queen lives for months, even years, and lets her lay thousands of eggs a day. It is literally a super food.

And, it turns out that using it on your face as a skin care product has transformative effects.

Although it is said that someone as far away as Cleopatra knew this ingredient, it was the emperor Napoleon Bonaparte of France who introduced it into the mainstream, and he quickly became associated with the culture of the French beauty, some even eating it as the queen would.

Stacey and Kelsey set out on a quest to the Pyrenees in southeastern France where the best royal jelly is said to have been made, and started using it for themselves. In the end, their neighbor wasn’t lying or a time traveler, and they’ve seen the results of what royal jelly can do firsthand. Travel was their inspiration to launch their new French Royal line, created to mimic the typical French style.

Stacey said that while a number of other cosmetic brands are familiar with royal jelly, it is watered down a bit. “We’ve found that a lot of high-end skin care companies use royal jelly in their products, but that’s just part of it and not just,” she said. “Our first product is pure royal jelly in a jar.” When the beekeepers harvest it, she explains, it’s wrapped in the jar, and that’s it. Finished. Lather on your face before bed and you are good to go.

Scientifically, the jelly doesn’t really need anything else anyway, and this family entity knows its stuff.

“In royal jelly, there is a bioactive compound called PEMHCA, which is responsible for what it does for us,” Kelsey said. “We did a cross-analysis between other French royal jellies, as well as jellies from all over Europe and Asia, and our jelly contains twice as much PHMCA as any of the others we studied.

“We entered this business without any experience, but took a lot of time researching and learning how it was made, how it should be packaged, shipped, stored, etc. “One thing we knew was that we wanted to work directly and exclusively with French producers, rather than having it shipped from China. We wanted to be eco-friendly and ecologically sound not only with the jelly itself, but with everything that concerns us.

Now, to touch on something that every piece of journalism these days has to include to some degree, it was interesting how Covid affected this burgeoning brand. You would be surprised to learn that the pandemic could checked in the young company.

“One of the biggest issues we had initially was that we weren’t gaining a lot of ground with high-end and reputable suppliers in France,” said Stacey.

“Compared to the mega-companies around us, we’re such a small slice,” Kelsey added.

However, with the onset of the pandemic, many top executives were confined to their apartments and spent much more time staring at their computer screens. Now the duo had a captive audience and their emails were getting replies.

While bees are literally the lifeblood of this business, any elementary school student can tell you how important bees are to the rest of the world. Still, bees are woefully close to being listed as endangered, and a substantial decline in the bee population would be devastating for life on Earth. France in particular has multiple laws regarding the preservation of bees, as agriculture is such a big part of life there.

French Royal is also committed to contributing to the sustainability of bees, in partnership with the long-standing conservation project of the Fairmont hotel chain “Bee Sustainable” which, luckily for the duo, was looking for a skin care product related to the bees. bees, which made it a natural product. in shape.

Stacey explained that she and the vice president of Fairmont also brainstormed some ideas for future programs, one of the more interesting ones where schools have their own beehives and teach beekeeping to students. She also adds that the proceeds from each sale will go towards a sustainability project. “We want to produce very high quality products that are very environmentally friendly,” said Stacey.

Sharon Cohen, vice president of Fairmont, echoed the same sentiment. “The partnership with French Royal was a natural choice,” she says. ” [They] have put their hearts into developing their new product line and it shows in everything they do.

“I think what most people are looking for in a product like this are the results and the benefits,” Kelsey added. “What makes this system unique is that it delivers these results both immediately and over time. When I use it I wake up with noticeably smaller pores and a brighter complexion, makeup continues even more easily. It turns your face into a new, clean canvas. “
