France and Italy are reporting record cases as the virus ravages Europe.


As winter approaches, Europe is grappling with a sharp resurgence of the virus, which, along with the US outbreak, has helped push the number of cases worldwide to more than 50 million, according to a base New York Times data. France and Italy have declared record daily case totals in recent days as the two countries decided to lock down some regions.

In Italy, where devastation from the first wave in spring looms on the horizon, 39,809 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Saturday, a new daily record. His daily average has increased 119% over the past two weeks.

Deaths in Italy have increased 232% in the past two weeks, with 425 deaths reported on Saturday.

Arno Kompatscher, the governor of Italy’s Bolzano province, known for its ski resorts, moved on Sunday to lock down the area, restricting travel and closing most non-essential shops and in-person meals.
