In an Instagram post on Sunday, the Fort Lauderdale Wharf said it would “close,” citing the peak in statewide coronavirus cases and local social distancing measures.
“We will reopen when we are able to provide the appropriate experience for [customers] in our beautiful outdoor room, ”reads the bar’s post.
In a statement, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Steve Geller said he was happy with the dock’s decision. According to the mayor, the bar was creating a mass-market event, serving people who did not wear masks.
Broward County surpassed 100,000 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, according to the Florida Department of Health. The total number of cases in the state reached 931,827 on the same day.
In addition to Broward’s 100,288 cases, 1,618 virus-related deaths were also reported in the county on Saturday.
