Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 5 Recap: Honey
In episode 6.05 of Fear the walking dead titled “Honey,” Dwight and Sherry team up with a mysterious faction of people to defeat Ginny. But when Morgan unexpectedly offers to help, a power struggle ensues.
Dwight and Sherry enjoy their reunion, looking through the old letters they wrote to each other that Dwight saved. The sweet moment is disturbed by Ranger Hill radioing to tell Dwight he needs to bring his tapes to Virginia. Dwight convinces Hill to let them check the “off-map places” instead, with the ranger warning Dwight it was worth it and to report back in 48 hours. Al was supposed to cover for Dwight but apparently missed the recording and Sherry wonders if they should go get her. Dwight doesn’t want Sherry to meddle with Virginia and her rangers, but Sherry maintains that she is already involved. Dwight suggests they should run, but Sherry says she can’t.
Soon after, a group of people wearing white masks and dark clothing kidnap Dwight. Dwight is taken to an empty swimming pool surrounded by mysterious strangers. After a moment of tension, Sherry appears, one of the white masks resting on her head as she explains that she is one of that group of outcasts that Virginia had thrown aside and planned to kill, hence the masks. to hide their identity. Sherry hadn’t told Dwight about the group before because she wasn’t sure he would want to be a part of trying to bring down Virginia. A man named Oswald is not so confident, however, and reveals that they also kidnapped Al to ensure Dwight’s cooperation, threatening to kill her if he doesn’t tell them more about Virginia’s movements.
After another tense moment, a familiar face intervenes in the form of Rollie, one of Logan’s henchmen whose life Dwight had previously saved twice. Rollie forces Oswald to free Al and withdraw. Dwight learns that the outcasts are planning to detonate the SWAT vehicle that Virginia usually sails at the moment; Al appears and explains that they cannot detonate it because it is a Caiman series MRAP, aka Mine Resistance Ambush Protective “designed to withstand IED blasts.” Al says instead of trying to destroy MRAP, they should steal it.
With the help of Dwight and Al, Sherry and the other rebels set off on horseback after finding the MRAP. The SWAT van is unprotected, with only one ranger taking the vehicle to refuel. After cutting off the ranger’s communication, the Virginia man tries to get them out with the MRAP weapons, but Al is able to help the group not take bullets. After Dwight boards the MRAP, he manages to stop him but the ranger escapes. He wasn’t gone for long, however, as Morgan suddenly appeared dragging the bound man behind his horse, much to Dwight and Al’s surprise who thought Morgan was dead.
After briefly catching up with a determined Morgan dedicated to reuniting with the rest of their little family (especially Grace), he, Dwight, Al and the others rest around a campfire celebrating their victory after robbing the MRAP. Morgan tells the group that he has found a safe place Virginia could never find them and that he needs people like them to help her integrate her into their own community. Sherry and Oswald quickly dismiss the idea, wanting Virginia’s head. Morgan realizes that they may have to get their hands dirty, but he and Dwight have already been through a war that has claimed too many lives. Plus, they have people they care about still inside the Virginia colonies who could be injured or killed if Sherry and the outcasts launch an attack. Morgan tells them he’s going back to the place he’s talking about tomorrow and whether or not they’re invited to come or not, but please don’t make a move against Virginia until the time is right.
Later, Dwight and Sherry talk privately about Morgan’s plan. Dwight says Morgan and Al are like family and he wants to try Morgan’s idea. Sherry disagrees, determined to take Virginia out. Dwight doesn’t want to leave without Sherry, so he says, “We’re doing this now. “
The person you were
Dwight questions the Virginia ranger, asking to know where the next chief will be. The questioning becomes intense, with Dwight showing off some of his old self when he worked under Negan and almost allowing Oswald’s dog to turn the man into a chew toy. Morgan ends it, however, asking Dwight what’s going on. Dwight argues with Morgan, asking him how this place he wants to build is going to be different somehow and feels Sherry is right; none of this matters if Virginia is alive. Dwight also tells him that he knows Morgan would do the same for Grace.
Dwight is now on board and helps set a trap for Virginia and her rangers by extending the radio to Ranger Hill which they have found over 100 alive. Sherry looks worried, however, and asks Dwight if he was really going to let the dog kill the ranger. Dwight said he just had to let him think he was. Sherry is baffled when Dwight tells her he’s going to kill Virginia himself. Morgan speaks with Al, who agrees with him that this attack on Virginia will not work and tells him that she lied about the MRAP not being affected by TNT, that it would be enough to remove the steering column and that the worst comes to worst they blow up. Dwight and the others catch Morgan and Al devising their own plan and decide to lock them up so they don’t get in the way. Dwight tells Morgan that they both want the same thing, but someone has to lose the fight. Sherry, not wanting Dwight to become the person he was during Negan’s reign, Oswald and Rollie lock Dwight down with Morgan and Al as well.
Dwight admits to Morgan that he was right when he said it was not the right time to take Virginia out and that he was just desperate to be with Sherry and that was what he thought she needed. Morgan understands, saying he didn’t realize he needed a change until it was almost too late. Elsewhere, Sherry and her group prepare to eliminate the rangers who have fallen into the trap. Dwight manages to escape and asks Sherry to change his mind before shooting the rangers with the MRAP – especially as they now realize Virginia is not with them. Dwight doesn’t want Sherry to turn into someone she hates, and he manages to convince her not to kill the rangers. Ranger Hill radios Dwight and Al say there better be a good reason for this wild goose hunt before they take off, without spotting the MRAP or the rebels. Sherry is angry that Dwight “had to make it difficult” and leaves MRAP.
After the attack fails, Dwight asks Sherry what Virginia did to him. Sherry says it was never about Virginia; it’s about Negan and her feeling that she didn’t help back then and refusing to turn her back on her now. Dwight says they can’t change the past. He wants more than anything to be with Sherry, but he doesn’t want them to become the people they were before. Sherry says she needs this and he has to go because that’s what she is. Sherry says Dwight reminds her of who he was before the apocalypse, and that’s why she needs him to go.
Dwight leaves, but not before freeing Oswald’s caged dog. Morgan asks him to accompany them. Dwight asks if he’s really going to eliminate Virginia and Morgan says yes. Al reassures Dwight that Sherry will find her way back one day. Now that they’ve been pretty much burned by the rangers after not checking them in and setting them up, they decide to fake Dwight and Al’s deaths by dressing two similar-looking walkers in their clothes and smashing the face for good measure, leaving them for rangers patrols.
Al and Dwight introduce Morgan to Nora and the rest of the office building survivors they previously rescued and who were in hiding. Morgan warns them that there is quite a bit of work to be done where he takes them, but they seem ready. Dwight leaves behind the infinity symbol and an arrow pointing in the direction they were headed to show Sherry where to go in case she changes her mind.
