The fourth season of Netflix’s The Crown will finally feature Princess Diana in the cast – played by up-and-coming actress Emma Corrin.

And the popular drama’s return will feature an episode recreating Prince Charles and Diana’s 1983 tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Daily Mail Australia has obtained the first images of one of the scenes set in Down Under with a baby Prince William.

However, the cast and crew of the award-winning show didn’t travel the world to portray some of the former couple’s most iconic moments.

Instead, they replaced various locations in Spain with Australia, with the addition of smart digital effects.

Emma Corrin, who plays the late Princess Diana, shares scenes with actor Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles and a small child like their firstborn, Prince William.

One scene shows Diana handing Prince William a stuffed koala bear as they appear to be venturing out into the outback near Uluru.

The city of Malaga was used for Sydney, while the desert near the port city of Almería served as the backdrop for their visit to Uluru.

In March 1993, the couple traveled to the Northern Territory in clothing very similar to what was to be depicted on screen.

In another image from the show, the actors are seen enjoying a family picnic outing in a rural landscape with sheep in a closed enclosure behind them.

The Netflix series, which was filmed from August 2019 through March 2020, also hired extras with Australian accents to help add to the Australian environment they have built in Spain.

Emma was originally contacted to read the role of Diana alongside co-star Josh O’Connor in 2018 after landing the role of Prince Charles, as Crown bosses struggled to find the right actress for play Camilla Parker-Bowles.

The star wasn’t auditioning for the role of Diana, but her speech efforts impressed the team so much that she was offered the role eight months later.

The Fourth Crown Series will begin in the late 1970s, with the Royal Family concerned with safeguarding the line of succession by securing a suitable bride for Prince Charles, who is still unmarried at 30.

Last month, Netflix’s official Instagram account for The Crown shared their first look at Princess Diana’s wedding dress for the show.

“Emmy Award-winning costume designer Amy Roberts wanted to capture the same spirit and style as the original David & Elizabeth Emanuel design, without creating a replica for Emma Corrin,” the caption read.
