Boris Johnson has put new measures in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus in England throughout the winter.The country will revert to a multi-tiered regional approach when the current lockdown ends on December 2 – but more areas will face tighter restrictions than under the previous regime.

Here is what will and will not be allowed under each level.

Level 1

People living below level 1 will be allowed to meet a maximum of six friends or family members outdoors or indoors.

Bars, pubs and restaurants will only operate with table service and must stop taking orders at 10 p.m., before closing at 11 p.m.

Retail and personal care – such as hairdressers and beauty salons – may reopen, and indoor entertainment venues – such as cinemas, theaters, bowling alleys and casinos – will be allowed to remain open. .

At Level 1, the message to stay home is being lifted, although people are still encouraged to minimize movement and work from home when possible.

Overnight stays will be authorized if they are limited to a support bubble, a household or up to six people.

Places of worship can reopen, but people should not interact with more than six people.

Fifteen guests will be allowed at weddings and civil partnerships, increasing to 30 for funerals.

Adult classes and organized sport can take place outdoors, but must follow the rule of six indoors.

Major events, including sports and live performances, will be open to the public but limited to 50% capacity or 4,000 outdoors and 1,000 indoors.

Level 2

No mix of indoor households outside of the support bubbles will be allowed, with a maximum of six gatherings allowed outside.

Pubs and bars will remain closed unless they function as restaurants, with alcohol only served as part of a “substantial meal” until 10 p.m., before venues are due to close at 11 p.m. h.

All retail, leisure and personal care services can reopen.

People will be encouraged to reduce the number of trips they take and avoid going to Level 3 areas except for education or work reasons.

Overnight stays will only be allowed for people in the same household or the support bubble and accommodation can open.

Places of worship can reopen, but people should not interact with anyone outside of their homes or support the bubble.

Classes and organized sport can take place outdoors but not indoors if there is interaction between two different households.

Major events, including sports and live performances, will be open to the public but limited to 50% capacity or 2,000 outdoors and 1,000 indoors.

Level 3

Groups of six people will only be able to meet in outdoor public spaces, such as parks and sports fields, but not in private gardens.

Hospitality will be closed except for take-out in these areas.

Indoor entertainment venues – such as cinemas, theaters, bowling alleys and casinos – will remain closed.

People will be asked to avoid traveling outside the area other than when necessary and to reduce the number of trips.

No overnight stay will be allowed outside the local area, except for work or studies, with closed accommodation.

Weddings and civil partnerships can resume but with only 15 guests, increasing to 30 for funerals. Wedding receptions are prohibited at level 3.

Places of worship can reopen, but people should not interact with anyone outside of their homes or support the bubble.

Adult classes and organized sports can take place outdoors, but people are advised to avoid high-risk contact activities.

Elite and live sports will still be banned, but drive-in events will be permitted.
