Koeman claims Ferguson

Former Everton assistant manager Erwin Koeman believes his brother Ronald has been a catalyst for Duncan Ferguson’s progress as a coach.

Ferguson impressed as interim manager after Marco Silva’s sacking last season and Erwin admitted he had an ‘excellent’ relationship with the Scotsman.

Erwin told De Telegraaf:

” I am a human being. I like working with real people like that, who know everything there is to know about the club and English football.

“Duncan is a very nice and warm guy. I had a great time with him.

“Ronald made sure his contract was changed; he was going to earn a normal salary.

Before adding life to Liverpool:

“In Oman, I had an apartment on the beach. A beautiful free country, where a lot has changed. But I also liked the south of England.

“At the end of the day, I preferred to go alone to an English pub with a pint at the bar sometimes. In this little restaurant in Southampton we had a wonderful evening.

« I played the DJ, put some Greek music on halfway, people went crazy and the Albanian owner went crazy. They continued to laugh. Hilarious evenings.

“Also, with Ronald, eh. He was the king there because we had a great team and did a fantastic job.

“But it was not possible with Ronald. The city of Liverpool was several times the size.

“We went to Sergeant Peppers, one of those tents with live music every day and where you can watch all the games on seven screens.

“Everyone came to him. I left alone then. They just don’t recognize me, really.
