Peter Andre’s wife Dr Emily MacDonagh has spoken about the coronavirus recovery process of Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper.The junior NHS doctor, 31, says it’s a ‘huge step’ for Derek to speak again after waking up from a coma.

And now, Emily has given her expert opinion on Derek’s ‘breakthrough’ moment, explaining how the ability to speak is ‘very complex’ and uses multiple parts of the brain.

In his OK! mag column, Emily wrote, “It sounds strange to say, but the ability to speak is very complex, using different parts of the brain to process it.

“It sounds like such a small step, but it’s huge and now he can start telling them how he feels.

“It looks like he still has a long way to go in his recovery and I really hope he continues to improve. “

While Derek remains in the hospital, Kate recently shared a “miracle moment” as her husband spoke for the first time in 214 days.

The GMB star shared his joy with co-stars Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid earlier this month.
