Eamonn and Ruth say it’s ‘goodbye, not goodbye’ as they are being replaced on This Morning

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have broken their silence after it was confirmed that they will no longer host This Morning on Fridays.
As revealed exclusively by The Mirror, the couple will now host the show only during the holidays and will be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on Fridays.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will continue to present the ITV program Monday through Thursday, with breaks during school holidays, which will still be hosted by Ruth and Eamonn.

Alison and Dermot will host This Morning on Fridays starting January 8, 2021, but it’s not yet clear when Ruth and Eamonn’s last show will take place.

Eamonn broke his silence on the news on Twitter.

He posted: “It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays starting in January.

“We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you have made us over the years. Have a good ball you two!

“It’s not a farewell on our part, it’s just Goodbye until the next semester. ”

Ruth also shared the same post on her Twitter account.

Alison and Dermot did not mention Ruth and Eamonn when the news was confirmed.

Alison said in a statement, “I never dreamed that when I first joined This Morning – initially for a few months – that I would still be there 19 years later.

“I really care about the show and the viewers who watch it, so it’s a huge privilege and honor to present a show that I love so much.

“I’m really, really excited to be doing more of what I love alongside the lovely Dermot. ”

Dermot said: “I am deeply delighted and honored to join the This Morning team next year.

“We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware of the privilege of entering them.

“Above all, we want to have fun and that you can start your weekend with a smile, especially considering the year we have all had.

“So I am delighted to co-host with the living embodiment of the sun on a rainy day. I am excited to begin. ”

A statement from ITV Daytime chief executive Emma Gormley did not explain why Ruth and Eamonn were replaced.

She said, “We are delighted that Alison and Dermot are joining This Morning’s main family of presenters.

“Alison has provided some of the show’s most memorable moments lately and teamed up with the brilliant Dermot, we think they make a great couple in addition to our fabulous lineup of Phillip & Holly and Eamonn & Ruth. . ”

Earlier this month, we revealed how Ruth and Eamonn lost their Friday This Morning slot.

Of the decision to hire Alison and Dermot, an insider said, “They’re really hot. It’s time for a change and they are perfect.

“Eamonn is quite pissed off and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are very appreciated in the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made. ”

Ruth and Eamonn have been together for two decades and got married in 2010.

They have been organizing This Morning together since 2000.

The couple would “not be afraid to start a televised war” following this decision.

Ruth and Eamonn feel “angry” that they no longer host the beloved show on Fridays and plan to host a rival show on a different channel if they receive their notification.

A TV insider told Heat: “They are now planning their own TV show to compete with This Morning, hopefully on the BBC or Channel 4.

“They’ve received a lot of offers from TV companies wanting to grab them, and none of them are afraid to start a TV war, just like Richard and Judy did when they went to Channel 4.

“Yet they are really mad at the way they were treated. ”
