Dodgers Betts and Yankees’ LeMahieu named finalists for MVP award


Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves and Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres were named finalists for the National League’s Most Valuable Player award.

Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox, DJ LeMahieu of the New York Yankees and Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Indians were also named finalists for the American League MVP award.

Freeman led the NL in WAR with 3.4. The 31-year-old is also 0.341 / 0.462 / 0.640 with 13 homers in the regular season.

While Betts shone in the postseason, they also put in some excellent numbers during the regular season. The 28-year-old and former AL MVP Award smashed 16 home runs and recorded 39 RBIs while hitting .292 / .366 / .562.

Machado has also hit 16 home runs this season. The 28-year-old also tallied 47 RBIs and reached 0.304 / 0.370 / 0.580.

In the American League, LeMahieu led the league in offensive production. Infielder Yankee finished with a WAR of 2.5 and hit a .364 MLB best with 10 home runs.

Abreu finished the season with a WAR of 2.6 and an average of 0.317. The 33-year-old has smashed 19 home runs and also had 60 RBIs.

After a tough 2019 season, Ramirez put in a great number in 2020. The 28-year-old hit .292 / .386 / .607 while scoring 17 home runs, 10 interceptions and a 3.4 war.

MVP award winners will be announced on November 12.
