A car crashed into the gate of the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.There were no immediate reports of casualties at the scene.

Ms Merkel was due to hold a videoconference of prime ministers of German states on Wednesday morning, to discuss an extension of the lockdown and additional measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

The car was seen to have white “anti-globalization” writing smeared on both sides of its body.

According to the Bild newspaper in Germany, the same car crashed into the building in 2014.

At that point, one side of the VW station wagon said: “No more killer climate change” and the other side: “Nicole, I love you,” Bild reports.

Today, police inspect the estate car at the gate with the words “Stop Globalization Politics” scrawled in white on the side.

Images on social media showed the words “You fucking killers of children and the elderly” written on the other.

Dozens of police and a fire engine were at the scene.
