Joe Biden edged out President Trump in Pennsylvania as the vote count continued there and the other critical states of Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina. As of Friday morning, Biden garnered 49.4% of the vote in Pennsylvania, compared with 49.3% for Mr. Trump, with 95% of the votes counted.

Overnight, Biden also took a lead in Georgia. According to election data from Clayton County, which was part of the Congressional District of late civil rights icon John Lewis, Biden added 1,602 votes and Mr. Trump 223, leaving Biden with a remarkably slim lead statewide. 917 votes.

However, the presidential race remains too close to be called.

Mr. Trump spoke Thursday night and falsely claimed victory. He also baselessly accused his political enemies of robbing him of the election.

“If you count the legal votes, I win easily,” the president falsely asserted. “If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us. If you count the votes that came in late, we look at them very carefully. ”

CBS News still considers Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, while Nevada and Arizona are considered likely to go to Biden.

Mr Trump has looked beyond the ballot box to the country’s courts in his efforts to retain the presidency, his campaign having filed a barrage of lawsuits in several battlefield states.
