Upon arrival at Camp Nou, Griezmann admitted that the first thing he did was speak with his new captain, who insisted he asked for the Frenchman’s signature before his infamous documentary “Decision” which saw him refuse the possibility of moving to Barcelona.
“I spoke with Leo when I arrived,” Griezmann told Real Madrid great Jorge Valdano on the latest edition of Univers Valdano, “And he told me that when I refused the first chance to go [to Barcelona], he was screwed because he asked for it publicly. But he told me he was with me and I notice him every day.
“I wanted to show [in the Decision documentary] that deciding to join one team or another is very complicated. People thought it was a game and I didn’t care about the fans. I just wanted to show how a player doesn’t know what to do and what to decide. Your wife, your parents, your children speak to you but in the end you decide.
“After the documentary, my parents got mad at me because they didn’t understand what I had done while filming the documentary. Plus, they wanted to see me in Barcelona. ”
The criticism has come Griezmann since joining Barcelona, as he has yet to emulate the form shown under Diego Simeone in Atletico Madrid.
“I accept it because I know that we are not seeing the best Griezmann, ” the French says: “but I understand that every time something else comes out I’m the first to be [criticised].
