The Great British Bake Off is generally a heartwarming watch, but tonight’s (November 3) edition of the baking show drew viewers to the edge of their seats as they experienced flashbacks to a disastrous moment that was emblematic of the show. .

The remaining six bakers tackled an ’80s theme this week, which allowed them to create quiches, cream and jam donuts, and ice cream cakes.

Sadly, ’80s themed week turned out to be filmed on one of the hottest days of the year, so ice cream cakes quickly proved to be a major challenge.

As the temperatures in the tent soared and the bakers sweated, it was difficult for the contestants to keep their cakes cool enough for them to harden.

And Laura, in particular, faced absolute disaster when she realized she hadn’t pressed the ice setting on her ice machine, meaning she had effectively churned the cream for 40 minutes.

Panicked, Laura popped her “Death by Chocolate” cake in the freezer to try to get it to set, but things turned from bad to worse when one side of her cake completely melted and it all started to fall apart. collapse. Devastated Laura called it the “worst case.”

Lottie was also struggling as the sides of her ’80s “Mix Tape” began to sink, causing a puddle of chocolate to form around the edges of her cake.

Viewers were on hot coals as they remembered that infamous Bake Off ‘BinGate’ moment in 2014, which saw Iain toss his Alaska Baked in the trash when it melted after being mistakenly left out of the freezer by an equally hot day – an incident which resulted in his dismissal from competition.

It was a stressful time for viewers, to say the least:
