The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the pinnacle of smartphone technology. (Express photo)Apple has left many potential buyers confused with its iPhone 12 series, which has four unprecedented devices. However, if there’s one phone in the series that has a clear target audience, it’s the iPhone 12 Pro Max. After taking a look at the base iPhone 12, smaller iPhone 12 Mini, and mid-size iPhone 12 Pro, we’ve now reached the biggest phone in the series that is clearly aimed at the pros – professionals, business users, and progressive users.

Price of iPhone 12 Pro Max in India: 1,29,900+

IPhone 12 Pro Max review: what’s new?

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is a big phone. In fact, it is a few inches taller than the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This means that it has a better screen-to-body ratio as well as a slightly better resolution. However, it weighs almost the same as the last version, despite the ceramic coating and steel frame.

The flat edges make the design very elegant. Keep in mind that Apple didn’t have such a large phone when the flat-edge design was last used on the iPhone. But the flat edges can sometimes make it a little difficult to grip the phone, especially when it’s cold. So I recommend investing in a good case that protects the phone and offers a good grip at all times.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a few changes in the camera department. For example, it now has a larger telephoto lens and can zoom 12x instead of the 10x before. Even the iPhone 12 Pro can’t do this. Additionally, this camera can now shoot in Dolby Vision HDR up to 60fps, which the iPhone 12 cannot. Then there is the Lidar sensor which gives the camera a sense of depth.

Another thing you should keep in mind is that the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a smaller battery than its predecessor by around 10%, although I haven’t noticed much change in the battery life. battery.

IPhone 12 Pro Max review: what is good?

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is clearly the pinnacle of smartphone technology. The best processor on the market with professional-grade cameras, a stunning display and a sleek design. So if you want to tell the world you’ve arrived this is the phone to buy this year.

For the past few years, Apple has ensured that all of its phones within a year have the same processor. And this guarantee of similar performance at all price points is something very unique to Apple at the moment. However, the experience is clearly different if you move up the value chain, as a phone like the Pro Max has more tools to use that A14 Bionic processor.

So while the UI / UX of all iPhone 12 series phones is the same, the Pro Max delivers high-end camera experiences that other phones can’t. For example, Dolby Vision HDR recording at 60 fps is as good as most DSLRs can offer right now. This is the phone you will buy if you shoot videos at a professional level but don’t always use a DSLR. This is the phone you’ll buy if you’re an avid photographer, but not the one who needs to carry a big camera to prove it. It really is a professional smartphone camera.

I have tried with a range of video settings, in low and normal light and the camera is great at keeping subtle color changes and even keeping track of the subject. I bemoan the fact that the phone came to me at a time when I can’t really go out and shoot a lot, but I managed to recreate a lot of scenarios with what I could do. And believe me, this camera is up to the task.

The details when trying to record in 4K HDR at 60 fps are almost cinematic. Dolby Vision HDR is enabled by default in this mode, but you’ll need a few California faces to see what this phone is capable of, not the hazy Delhi sky.

Where this iPhone really steps up is with video recording. Stuck at home with another Covid-19 surge in Delhi, I didn’t have many options for pushing this phone’s camera capabilities. However, I tried it with the Diwali colored lights in the middle of the night and you can see the results for yourself. In this video, you can see that despite the dark settings, the phone offers smooth image stabilization at all times. You can see the subtle changes in the lights and even the glows that have different hues.

You can see these camera prowess even by clicking on regular photos, whether night or day. I clearly think the camera is now faster at processing night shots and what used to take 3 seconds earlier can now be captured in less time.

Like the Pro, the Pro Max also has a Lidar sensor in the camera platform. While this is primarily intended to provide a better AR experience, it clearly improves some shots dramatically. For example, compare these two shots of the Buddha taken with iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max without portrait mode active, but at f16 settings. You can see how sharper the iPhone 12 Pro Max is with the subject almost popping out in a 3D effect. Also, the iPhone 12 Pro Max offers a 2.5x optical zoom in portrait against the 2x of its predecessor.

Over the past few years I’ve ditched my camera in favor of an iPhone, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max Apple has taken it to the next level. Now you can shoot premium video and edit it on the phone as well. A 30 second 4K clip that I shot can be edited and processed in under a minute, retaining all the details. The phone doesn’t even whine when it does this.

iPhone 12 Pro Max: What’s not good?

The battery life of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is almost the same as that of the iPhone 11 Pro Max last year. He should be able to see you back home safely on a full charge with a very active day. However, it looks like the battery (3,687mAh) this time is smaller than last year’s 3,969mAh cell. Since the phone has gotten bigger than last time around, it’s a little difficult for me to understand why this reduction was necessary. My fear is that this will start to show up as the phone and its battery ages, especially for those who use the phone in 5G. Indians are fortunate in not having 5G to dump their new iPhones. Again, iPhone fast charging is now among the best in the industry and will come to the rescue if you get exhausted in strange places.

There is no denying that the iPhone, any iPhone, is a high-end device. However, the price jump on the new iPhone 12 Pro Max model needs to be better justified. Even considering the fact that the base model now has 128 GB compared to the previous 64 GB, the price differential is significant. Although I think that is the cost of 5G, in India it becomes a bit of a future-proof tax.

Also, although it will be a small thing for someone who buys such an expensive phone, you will have to spend a few thousand extra rupees to get a regular charger or the new MagSafe charger as this phone comes in a slim box that doesn’t does not. have room for one of them.

iPhone 12 Pro Max: Should You Buy?

Yes, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a great buy for those with business workflows involving a phone. It can be anything from the need for a stellar display to high-end processing or professional-quality video recording. However, if you’re using an iPhone released in the past couple of years, it’s too early to switch to this one. For anyone using an older iPhone, it’s time to get moving. For others, you are hitting the ship for the best camera experience and a processor that could power your next PC as well.

As Cupertino would say, this is Apple’s best iPhone. I can only agree.
