Anti-France protests continue as Macron seeks agreement

KARACHI (AP) – Hundreds of demonstrators in Pakistan burned effigies of the French leader and chanted anti-French slogans, as President Macron tried to send a message of understanding to Muslims around the world. Sunday’s protests followed anti-French protests in the Muslim world last week and took place despite Macron’s statement that he understood the shock Muslims felt at the cartoons depicting the Prophet of Islam. Macron spoke on Saturday night in an interview with Qatar-based Arab TV channel Al-Jazeera, in which he defended freedoms of expression. The anti-France protests began after Macron praised a French teacher in Paris who was beheaded for showing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in class.
