A petition to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman’s sequel has received over 1.5 million signatures.

The actor’s role in the DC franchise as Aquaman’s love interest Mera has come under intense scrutiny since Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp lost his libel case earlier this month.

The petition – which sets out a goal of reaching 3 million signatures – was set up by fans who claim Heard “has consistently crossed paths to ruin Depp in Hollywood” since the couple’s divorce in 2017.

Online petition page accuses Heard of lying and “setting up fake accounts [Depp] to be the aggressor ”.

Heard has long accused the Pirates Caribbean domestic violence star, which he denied. After continuing The sun News Group Newspapers publisher and editor Dan Wootton for calling him a “wife beater” in a column, Depp lost the case earlier this month. A UK judge said the allegation was “substantially true”.

The actor has since spoken out against those calling for his removal from the DC film. She said Weekly entertainment: “Paid rumors and paid social media campaigns do not dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality.

The 34-year-old continued: “Only the fans really did Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I am delighted to start next year. “

In a statement last week, Depp called the UK court ruling “surreal” to his case and said he planned to appeal the verdict. “My life and my career will not be defined by this moment in time,” he added.

This week Depp was denied leave to appeal the decision, after a High Court judge also ordered the actor to pay the Sun’s publishers a payment of around £ 630,000 in legal fees.
