2020 NBA Draft follow-up: ratings, results and picks live as Anthony Edwards is selected first

The 2020 NBA Draft will be unlike any other in league history, but it will look like a bunch of drafts we’ve seen in the sports world before this year. The WNBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, and NWSL drafts all took place remotely in 2020, and that’s the scene we’ll be focusing on Wednesday night. The NBA digital draft is here.

To complicate matters further, the 2020 NBA Draft features a unique set of players with incredibly polarizing profiles. There is little agreement on big boards and teams did not have the option to use the traditional combination or face-to-face interviews or practice to do evaluations. That, along with the free agency of the NBA starting this Friday, is sure to lead to a wild 2020 NBA Draft.

The action begins at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN is televising the proceedings, but you can keep it locked down here. CBS Sports HQ will cover the selection draft overnight and is available to watch for free on any connected device here. You can also use the CBS Sports app to track each pick with alerts on your phone when your favorite team makes a selection.

You’re here for the notes, though, and we’ve got them. Gary Parrish is in the process of ranking the first round and Kyle Boone the second.

First round

1. Minnesota Timberwolves : SG Anthony Edwards, Géorgie

It is not a surprising choice. Edwards is a formidable talent with a great pedigree. But I’m not enthusiastic, but I realize that any pick atop this flawed project was not going to be perfect. He was not a great college player and he has drawn criticism for expressing a lack of passion for the game recently. Yet he has the potential to be a top scorer. It’s not what I would have done, but it’s what a lot of franchises would have done. Quality: B +

2. Warriors of the Golden State : C James Wiseman, Memphis

It would have sounded a lot better this morning before Klay Thompson news, but if you take a physical specimen like Wiseman and put it next to Stephen Curry, Klay and Draymond Green, and you can compete for another championship. But still, with the second pick, you get the player most physically prepared to make a big impact right away.Quality: A +

3. Charlotte Hornets: PG LaMelo Ball, USA

Ball was my first prospect in this draft class. It was obvious. Charlotte has good guards, but Ball has the potential to be a star. There are a lot of things to improve – defense first on the roster – but if he becomes the best version of himself, he’ll be the best player in that draft class.Quality: A +
