Samantha Tavel, aka Candy Cartwright, has filed a civil action against Matt Riddle, WWE, and former EVOLVE owner Gabe Sabolsky, which was first reported by the Chicago Sun Times.According to court documents acquired by Fighter, Tavel seeks $ 10 million per defendant for actual damages, damages for emotional distress, punitive damages, attorney fees and costs.

Fighter noted that the lawsuit alleges that Riddle committed a series of assaults against Tavel from 2017 to January 2020. She alleges that Riddle sexually assaulted her for the first time in April 2017 in a parking lot following an EVOLVE show . She claims that Riddle bragged about the incident with Sapolsky and two others in WWE who “tacitly approved” the assault.

According to Chicago Sun Times, after leaving an EVOLVE event on May 19, 2018, Tavel – who was in a relationship with Riddle at the time – said Riddle forced her to give him a blowjob on a bus with other wrestlers. Tavel said she wasn’t comfortable doing the deed with other wrestlers on the bus and said, “No. Tavel claims that Riddle then put his hands on his neck and said, “What if I just created you?” ”

“I never thought he would do anything to hurt me and at that point I was terrified,” Tavel said at a press conference Thursday.

Tavel’s attorney, John Chwarzynski, said the incident was part of “Matt Riddle’s” multitude of sexual assaults against my client, Candi Cartwright. ”

“WWE has painted a picture over the years that female performers have to abide by certain rules,” Chwarzynski said. “WWE, since its inception, has had hyper-sexualized female performers and they have taken advantage of the male assault on these female performers. ”

According to Chicago Sun Times story, Tavel claims that EVOLVE fired her in January after she refused to continue performing “forced sex acts” on Riddle.

Cartwright made the first allegations against Riddle in June. Riddle admitted that they had been having an affair, but denied any allegation of sexual assault. In September, Riddle dropped a petition for a restraining order against Tavel. Riddle announced on September 17 that he would bring a civil action against Tavel, but the lawsuit has yet to be filed.

We have reached out to WWE, Sapolsky and Riddle and will provide updates if we receive any.
