Devan Dubnyk, who resurrected his career after almost being out of the NHL in a torturous 2014 to become franchise goalie in Minnesota, was traded Monday afternoon after six seasons with the Wilds against the San Jose Sharks, The Wild received a 2022 fifth-round pick from San Jose, who also got a 2022 seventh round from the Wild.

Dubnyk joins Ryan Donato, who was distributed to the Sharks earlier Monday in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick. It’s unclear why Dubnyk was not just thrown on the trade earlier today, but sources say Sharks general manager Doug Wilson wanted it to be orchestrated that way.

Nonetheless, the decision to trade Dubnyk, who saved the Wild’s bacon in a magical run in 2015 and backed the organization to four straight playoff spots until 2018, no doubt foreshadows the GM Bill Guerin plans to acquire another keeper in the coming days.
