What happened to William Saliba in Arsenal training ahead of Manchester City trip

Arsenal prodigy William Saliba suffered an almighty fright during a recent training session. The teenager is still getting used to life in England after returning to the club this summer following a one-season loan at former Saint-Etienne club.

He gave fans a glimpse of his quality in a friendly pre-season win over MK Dons in August and was on the bench for the Community Shield penalty shootout win over Liverpool.

Although he has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Gunners.

That said, Saliba has seemed in good spirits during recent training sessions and appears to be in good company with several players from Arsenal’s first team.

As some Gunners fans noted last month, Saliba stepped out for a session alongside captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and compatriot Alexandre Lacazette.

All of this has sparked a theory that he’s being framed by the strike duo.

However, Shkodran Mustafi took a different approach.

Thanks to @afcsammm on Twitter, Mustafi’s antics in training ahead of the Premier League clash this weekend have gone viral.

The center-back, who could be available against City after missing the start of the season with injury, is waiting for the first person to go through a series of doors at London Colney.

Saliba turns out to be the hapless one ahead of David Luiz and the Frenchman looked genuinely scared when Mustafi appeared out of nowhere.

Mustafi could have a much better chance of scaring Saliba in the coming weeks as the youngster is set to stay at Arsenal despite his link to a loan at an EFL club.

Speaking at his pre-Man City press conference on Thursday, manager Mikel Arteta said he expected the teenager to stay put.

It comes after the Spaniard admitted this season will be a transition for the center-back.

“He had a lost year last year,” Arteta said of Saliba earlier this month.

“For many reasons, this was not the transition year he needed as he had a lot of injuries, personal issues and also with COVID-19.

“He needs this year of transition and we are trying to make the right decisions for him to give him the best year of transition to have the player we want in our future. “
