Netflix released the first trailer for Ma Rainey’s black background, his next adaptation of August Wilson’s piece about the Chicago blues titan. Starring Viola Davis as Rainey, the film features Chadwick Boseman as a trumpeter named Levee. This is the actor’s last role before his death earlier this year. The film arrives on December 18. Known as “Mother of the Blues,” Rainey was one of the first blues artists to record her work. Boseman died of colon cancer at the age of 43 in August – a diagnosis he kept secret for four years.
