As Vasiliy Lomachenko nears his Oct. 17 date to unify the lightweight titles against Teofimo Lopez, Lomachenko tells RingTV how much he wants to silence the rising star of the sport.
“I want to beat him very, very, very badly. I really want to beat him hard, ”Lomachenko told The Ring in a recent interview. “(Lopez’s dad) thinks (Lopez is) a big superstar like Tyson Fury. That’s why they talk about the trash. They act like a big superstar, but they’re not.
Lomachenko would go on to acknowledge that he had genuine disdain for Lopez and his father, claiming that all of their trashy talk about him had brought him to a point where he wanted to prove a point.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would double down on Lomachenko sentiment, claiming that no one really trashy talked about Lomachenko the way Lopez did and that he rubbed Lomachenko the wrong way. That said, Arum says Lomachenko’s training has been more intense than ever.
For Lopez’s part, he says he doesn’t intentionally try to get under his skin, but if it had that effect, so much the better. But for all that either fight has to say about their take on the other, they will both have the opportunity to impose their physical will on each other this weekend. end on ESPN.
