Vancouver Christmas market canceled due to coronavirus pandemic

The Vancouver Christmas Market will not be held this year. The festive market that typically sets up at Jack Poole Plaza for the holiday season has not been able to obtain permission to operate given current public health restrictions, he announced on Instagram on Saturday.

“It is with deep regret that we announce that the Vancouver Christmas Market is postponed to 2021,” the organizers wrote. “We have worked tirelessly and exhausted all potential avenues; finally, we must prioritize the safety of our staff, suppliers and customers. ”

Staff are working on creating some sort of virtual version of the Marketplace, but details on what that might look like are not yet available.

Coronavirus cases are increasing in British Columbia and most of Canada. The Vancouver Christmas Market is not the first to be canceled by the pandemic – the Toronto Christmas Market announced in September that it would not be happening this year.

The Vancouver Market is designed after a traditional Bavarian Christmas market and typically features different types of food from vendor stalls, a covered Christmas craft market, as well as mulled wine and live music.
