USL Championship final canceled due to COVID-19 results – The Athletic


The USL Championship final scheduled for Sunday will not go as planned after several Tampa Bay Rowdies players test positive for COVID-19, multiple sources told The Athletic. The players join three club staff (including head coach Neill Collins and assistant coach Kevin Foley) who tested positive on Friday. ESPN’s Taylor Twellman first hinted at the potential cancellation Saturday morning via Twitter. Sources said on Saturday the league would not reschedule the final, leaving Tampa Bay and Phoenix Rising as conference champions after Reno 1868 won the regular season. The league had planned to play the game in three to four weeks, allowing a two-week quarantine period for those who tested positive and additional time for full training.
