According to a security alert, “the US mission in Turkey has received credible reports of terrorist attacks and potential kidnappings against US citizens and foreign nationals in Istanbul, including against the US Consolate General, as well as potentially of other places in Turkey. ”
He continued, “US citizens are advised to exercise extra caution in places where Americans or foreigners may congregate, including large office buildings or shopping malls.
“All US citizenship and visa services to the US mission at facilities in Turkey (including US Embassy Ankara, US Consulate General in Istanbul, US Consulate in Adana and the US Consular Agency in Izmir) will be temporarily suspended.
“People with scheduled appointments will be notified via email with instructions on how to reschedule appointments. ”
The announcement comes after a U.S. Air Force attack on an Al Qaeda meeting in Idlib, Syria, where a number of high-ranking jihadists were killed.
According to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) media center on Friday, attacks by the Turkish military and affiliated groups recently increased in northeastern Syria.
The SDF said: “The artillery and mortar shells targeted the population in particular and inflicted extensive material damage on the property of civilians in the region, with the intention of emptying the area of its inhabitants.
“Many villages near the international M4 road have been bombarded by mercenaries from the Turkish occupation army over the past three days, especially along the Ain al-Issa line,” he added. , noting that “reconnaissance flights and combat planes accompanied the bombardment”.
