The dates for the payment of universal credit, PIP and family allowances for the Christmas and New Year period have been announced. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, millions of people have had to turn to universal credit following massive layoffs.

As there are a number of statutory holidays during the upcoming holiday season, usual payment dates may be subject to change.

The Department of Work and Pensions said: “If a payment date is a public holiday or a weekend, clients will be paid on the last working day before the public holiday or weekend. “

Universal Credit Christmas 2020 payment dates

The universal credit is paid on the same date each month the applicant receives their first amount.

So, if your first Universal Credit payment arrived on September 25, it will then be paid on the 25th of each following month – unless that date happens to be a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.

Those whose normal monthly payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday will usually find that it has been moved to an earlier day. That’s good news, but it means the money will have to last a bit longer until the next payday.

This year things are different in that Monday December 28 is a public holiday instead of Boxing Day, which will fall on a Saturday and therefore will not count as a public holiday.
