A third shift and approximately 120 jobs are added at Ford’s Annex engine plant.

Unifor is now looking to secure a second product at the Windsor assembly, with the goal of reinstating the recently eliminated third shift.

Approximately 1,375 jobs were lost when the shift was canceled.

Unifor is also seeking a new product for the FCA plant in Brampton, where the Challenger, Charger and Chrysler 300 are produced, as well as an investment in the company’s casting plant in Etobicoke.

After weeks of work behind the scenes, Bezaire said, “I hope it’s a lot of work for nothing.”

He remains cautiously optimistic.

“I think you must be nervous. I’m still nervous at this point, ”he says. “You just want to end it.

“I made the comment to our members, ‘I’m getting the frustration and you want to know what’s going on. Just have confidence in our negotiating committee. They are at the table and they will make a deal that solidifies our future going forward. “

This future must include a new product, he said.

“We have just over 500 members who are being laid off, laid off indefinitely because of the loss of the third shift,” Bezaire said. “Getting them back to work would be great. But we’re going to need investment in another product to build alongside Pacifica.

“It’s our livelihood. These are good jobs and we hope we can solidify our future. Not just for us but for the community as a whole. ”
