Trump Town Hall Live: Latest updates as Savannah Guthrie interviews President and Biden hosts rival election event

US President Donald Trump in Iowa Wednesday
Donald Trump and Joe Biden began their dueling appearances for mayor in what should have been the night of the second presidential debate.

Trump appears on NBC at the same time as Biden appears on ABC after the Commission on Presidential Debates unilaterally changed the format to a virtual town hall due to the president’s Covid diagnosis, with the two campaigns unable to reach an agreement to go from the front.

The same day presidential candidates were due to face off, future moderator Steve Scully was suspended by his employer C-Span after seeking advice from an anti-Trump activist and lying face-to-face about it.

Instead, Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC News’ “Today” show, greets Trump’s town hall while ABC News chief presenter George Stephanopoulos greets Biden.

Next question for Biden is about the Supreme Court

Should we provide guarantees to the Supreme Court and what would it say to LGBT + Americans who are concerned about the future directions of the court?

Biden highlights his LGBT + credentials and acknowledges that they should be concerned about the addition of other conservative justice. It then revolves around the issue of health care and the threat of the Affordable Care Act.

Biden says it’s inconsistent to put someone on the court in an election with so many people having already voted.

Stephanopoulos wonders about the packaging of the court.

Biden says he’s not a fan of the judicial wrapper, but there are other options, including changing term limits. Said he will come out with a clear answer before Election Day based on confirmation from ACB.
