The president, meanwhile, started his day raging on Twitter that New York City has “gone to hell” and predicting that California will follow suit, once again telling Americans that the coronavirus pandemic “will just take its course.” and raging against leftist protesters in Portland, Oregon, over the statue overthrow.
Trump’s re-election campaign has meanwhile clashed with the respected Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, after using his words out of context in a political ad to convey the impression that he praised Trump. “In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly supported any political candidate,” Dr Fauci said in response.
Bill Stepien, Trump campaign manager, back to work
As Chris Coons takes over from an insufferably smug Ben Sasse – rambling on ‘eighth grade civics lessons’ and arguing that Coney Barrett’s faith shouldn’t affect his court candidacy supreme – it looks like Trump’s 2020 strategist is, like Mike Lee, back to work after contracting Covid.
With the president due to come back to the stub tonight, here’s a warning to Florida from the anti-Trump organization, the Meidas Touch.

Amy Klobuchar: “This is not the country of Donald Trump. This is yours. This shouldn’t be Donald Trump’s judge. It should be yours

Demonstration of the “servants” in front of the Senate
As Texas Republican Ted Cruz (appearing via Zoom) gives a speech to Democrats for “politicizing” Coney Barrett’s hearing (hah!) And flatters the silent federal judge, protesters outside have strung on. Handmaid’s Tale costumes to clearly express their opposition to its confirmation.
Back in the bedroom, Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse points to the folly of targeting the Affordable Care Act in the midst of a global pandemic. “Trump cannot even ensure the security of the White House,” he stresses.
The president himself, meanwhile, continues to attract attention by denigrating retweets and tarnishing his seemingly random political enemies. One would think that he would be more interested in this session than he seems. It’s almost as if he’s having trouble concentrating.

Trump says US will become ‘a full-scale version of Venezuela’ under Biden
Already annoyed by Mike Lee’s interminable speech, the president grabbed his phone and is back behind his opponent, melodramatically asserting, “Our country cannot survive as a socialist nation.”
I’m with him on this one – Senator Lee, cover your mouth and go home.

Dick Durbin: “This president has never suffered from a pure and simple thought”
This was presented beautifully by the Democrat from Illinois and, at just the right time, it was proven 100% correct.

Senate Democrats: “We shouldn’t be holding this hearing”
Veteran Vermont Senator Pat Leahy has likely had the hearing line so far, denouncing the ongoing Covid crisis in Washington and Republican neglect of testing, distancing and masks.
Dianne Fienstein of Califoria made a similar point, as did Dick Durbin of Illinois who is speaking at the moment.

Republican Senator Mike Lee, who tested positive for Covid, attends court session
The gentleman from Utah, who tested positive for the coronavirus just ten days ago, has decided it is absolutely okay for him to appear at Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearing.
Entering the bedroom, wearing a mask, the GOP lawmaker said he felt “fine” but did not respond when asked if he had been tested on Monday. Do whatever you want with it.
Oliver O’Connell has the latter.

For Indy Premium, Hamish Macrae offers an optimistic assessment of the economic future of the United States – whoever wins on November 3.

Trump Says California ‘Goes to Hell’ New York is Already Here and Illinois ‘Has No Place to Go’

Fortunately he hasn’t run the country for four years.
