The private school Barron Trump attends in the Washington, DC area, Andrew’s Episcopal School, has run fully virtual classes so far this school year.

Trump, who was himself diagnosed with the virus earlier this month, has always advocated for the physical reopening of schools, despite concerns from public health experts that schools could worsen the spread of COVID -19. Trump has sometimes mistakenly claimed that children are “almost immune” to the virus.

Children can contract COVID-19, although evidence indicates that they are less likely to suffer from serious illness or die compared to their older counterparts. The elderly are considered a high-risk population when it comes to coronavirus. This highly infectious disease has killed more than 215,000 Americans and more than one million worldwide.

Many schools across the country have chosen to switch to partially virtual or fully virtual classrooms in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Melania Trump issued a written statement earlier Wednesday expanding on her own experience of recovering from COVID-19, nearly two weeks after the virus was diagnosed with Trump.

She revealed that Barron Trump tested positive for the virus after their diagnosis and showed “no symptoms.” She said he had since tested negative.

At Wednesday’s rally, Trump also discussed his own battle with the virus.

“It’s a little difficult. You have a fever and you’re not feeling well, ”Trump said, before bragging about the cocktail of antibodies he received as part of his treatment.

Trump spent 72 hours at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after his diagnosis. He was deemed capable of resuming public events by the White House doctor last week and returned to the election campaign on Monday.
